A Visit to Oxford University

The University of Oxford is the oldest English-language  University, erected almost a 1000 years ago, in 1167.  Today, it is still considered one of the top 10 universities  in the world. Come with us as we explore this beautiful  and ancient place of learning.           A common mistake made by newly arriving tourists to  Oxford is to ask direction to the campus of the famous  university. It actually has not one centralized campus,  but over 40 schools spread throughout the city.      Some of the most famous and old of colleges, which have  produced many a famous alumni, such as presidents and  other famous statesmen as well as scholars , scientists, writers,  Nobel laureates and others.    Just to name a few - Bill Clinton, Tony Blair,  CS Lewis ( author of The Chronicles of Narnia), JRR Tolkien  (author of Lord of the Rings), Edmund Halley, who gave  his name to the famous comet, Robert Hooke, Lewis  Carroll (Alice in Wonderland), Benazir Bhutto,  Manfred von Richthofen (the Red Baron) and Oscar Wilde.    For over 800 years, this university has been a home to  scholars and royalty alike. During the 17th century it was  the seat of court used by King Charles I.    A place of great history and learning, this university  is both laden with knowledge as it is with architectural beauty.
